Sewing Machines Donated to Juaso

Twenty sewing machines were donated to Juaso's Anna Girls Training Center in the Asante Akim South District of the Ashanti Region on February 19th, 2006. Mr. Wang Jinghua, Counsellor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Ghana who presented the equipment at the Center, spoke highly of the Sino-Ghanaian friendship and pledged that the Chinese Embassy would continue to support efforts to strengthen training and promote employment in Ghana. He said the donation of the sewing machines was a step along the path to help local girls to obtain skills and engage in production. He encouraged the girls to study hard so that they will be able to contribute more to the progress of Ghana and to the enhancement of China-Ghana friendship.

Ms. Gifty Ohene-Konadu, Deputy Minister of Trade & Industry expressed appreciation to the Chinese Embassy for the assistance to the Center and called for a closer relationship between the community and the Chinese Embassy. Mrs. Anna, founder of the center, expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for the assistance and gave the assurance that the sewing machines would be properly taken care of and put to good use. Also present at the ceremony were the staff members and students of the center as well as some local residents. They gave theirs thanks by beautiful songs and dances.

Before the ceremony, Mr. Wang Jinghua paid a courtesy call to Nana Owusu Ansah Sikatuo, chief of Morso Town in the Ashanti Region. Nana Morsohene expressed thanks to the Chinese Embassy for its support to the training center and requested more Chinese companies to invest in Morso. On another occasion, Mr. Wang Jinghua visited the National Youth Council Training Center in Juaso and presented some books and videotapes to the center.
