Chinese New Year Celebrated

The Spring Festival (Chinese New Year in lunar calendar) of 2007 is coming on 18th February. To celebrate the traditional festival, a gala party for Ghanaian-Chinese communities was held in the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Accra. About 500 guests from Chinese communities and Chinese enterprises in Ghana attended.

Addressing the reception, H.E. Amb. Zhang Keyuan expressed well-wishing to all Chinese in Ghana in the coming lunar new year. He observed that China has made impressive progress in various areas in 2006. He thanked Ghana for its adherence to the one China policy and support for China's great cause of peaceful national reunification. When covered the bilateral relations, Zhang said the cordially friendship has reached a milestone when Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao paid a successful visit to Ghana last June. He hailed H.E. President J.A. Kufuor's attendance to the Beijing Summit of the Forum of China-Africa Cooperation last November. He assured an Action Plan on China-Africa Cooperation for the next three years had been adopted and China was taking important steps to enhance further cooperation with Africa. Ghana would be benefit from the framework.

Zhang observed that under the leadership of H.E. President J. A. Kufuor, Ghana was going to celebrate her 50th Anniversary of Independence next month. China was greatly delighted to see all the positive developments that have been taking place, and was ready to lend her support to Ghana. He urged Chinese communities here continued to making contribution to the social and economic development of Ghana, so as to foster friendly relations between two countries and peoples.

 

After the speech, a Durbar started with Chinese traditional Dragon Lion Dance. Brilliant live performances such as comic dialogue, ethnic dance, violin performance, vocal solo, mixed chorus and Taijiquan (a Chinese traditional physical exercise beautifully) showed by Ghanaian-Chinese communities and Embassy staff have made the party brimming with joyful atmosphere. The Durbar ended with firework show.
