Governor of Chinese Central Bank visits Ghana

At the invitation of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Zhou Xiaochuan, Governor of the People's Bank of China, the central bank, visited Ghana from February 26th to March 1st, 2005. On February 28th, H. E. President Kufuor met with the governor and his party. He extended welcome to the delegation, expressed appreciation to the Chinese Government for its assistance to Ghana and envisioned an increasingly important role of the Bank in the enhancement of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

The Governor briefed the Ghanaian President about the efforts the Bank had made towards promoting China-Africa economic and trade cooperation, and commended the achievements Ghana had attained in curtailing the inflation, reducing the budgetary deficit and facilitating economic growth of the country. He gave the assurance that China encourages enterprises to invest in Ghana, saying that developing countries share wide-ranging common interests which call for mutual help. Previously, Dr. Zhou met with its Ghanaian counterpart, Dr. Paul A. Acquah, Governor of the Bank of Ghana and exchanged views on a series of issues.

Also present at the above mentioned meetings was H. E. Zhang Keyuan, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana.
