Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong attended the Sod-cutting Ceremony of China-Ghana Friendship ICT Library & Community Center at Maranatha University College of Ga Central Municipality in the Greater Accra Region of the Republic of Ghana

On 20th October 2017, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong attended the sod-cutting ceremony of China-Ghana Friendship ICT Library & Community Center at Maranatha University College of Ga Central Municipality in the Greater Accra Region of the Republic of Ghana. Over 200 people attended the ceremony including Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration & MP for Anyaa Suowtuom Constituency Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Chief Executive of Ga Central Municipality Dr. Emmanuel Lamptey, President of Maranatha University College Rev. Dr. Simon Degbe, General Manager of Qingjian International Development Company Mr. Wang Chao, and officials from local assembly, traditional leaders, faculty members and students as well as local residents.

In her speech, Ambassador Sun said that China has been attaching great importance to the education since ancient times and place education cooperation at priority in China-Ghana cooperation. The China-Ghana Friendship ICT Library & Community Center will benefit more people in Ghana. Amb. Sun pointed out that since the New Patriotic Party government took office, H.E. President Akufo-Addo has actively implemented his promises during the 2016 election and vigorously improved Ghana's education environment, which China highly appreciates. Amb. Sun stressed that China will continue to work with Ghana from all walks of life to continuously promote the China-Ghana relations to a notch higher.

In her speech, Foreign Minister Hon. Botchwey expressed her sincere gratitude to China for the long-term selfless aid on behalf of the Ghanaian government and people, and stressed that the establishment of China-Ghana Friendship ICT Library & Community Center is another strong evidence underpinning our bilateral traditional friendship. Hon. Botchwey pointed out that the New Patriotic Party government is committed to building one ICT center in each community of the country, providing a platform for the residents and students to learn knowledge and improve skills which has a significant and profound influence on the economic transformation of Ghana. Hon. Botchwey stressed that the New Patriotic Party government is committed to realizing its promises during the 2016 election and building more ICT centres for the benefit of more Ghanaian people.

After delivering the speech, Ambassador Sun, accompanied by the Foreign Minister Hon. Botchwey, cut the ribbon and broke the ground together for the China-Ghana Friendship ICT Library & Community Center. During the event, thunderous applause arose from the teachers and students as well as the local residents. The event was overwhelmed by excitement and joy.

The China-Ghana Friendship ICT Library & Community Center, constructed by Qingjian International Development Company Ghana, is the 11th ICT project aided by the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, which includes one large scale ICT library, one Community Center, two offices, one lobby and one washroom. Once completed, it would be the first multi-functional public service facility of this constituency, and it could also be used by the residents of neighboring districts.
